Suscol Strawbale

This octagonal strawbale building was created for the Suscol Intertribal Council of California. I joined Bob Theis, Tracy Theriot (Tactile Interiors) and Yoshi (Tactile Interiors) along with dozens of Native American volunteers and an intertribal Americorps Program. We inherited the structural frame from another designer and then added an gravelbag foundation, custom strawbales, heavy straw-clay sculpted windows and nichos, and earth plaster. The roof is insulated with natural sheep's wool and earth plastered as well. The roof is also a living roof with concentric rings of local stones retaining several sections of it. Suscol Strawbale Project - Part 1

Now on to a slightly larger project. I have joined forces with Bay Area Architect, Bob Theis, to finish a strawbale building for an inter-tribal Native American sacred land. The project was started last summer by another person, but they were unable to complete it as started. It is interesting coming into a project that you didn't begin, but so far we are making the best of it. It has an octagonal framework with strawbale infill, cobbed windows, skylight & living roof.
